Melo Village (Kampung Melo), a popular cultural destination near Labuan Bajo. While it is often visited in the same day trip as the Cunca Plias Waterfall. The village itself is primarily known for its Manggaraian cultural heritage and panoramic mountain views.

Sylvia Hill (Bukit Sylvia), also known as “Amelia Hill” or “Love Hill” by some locals, is one of the most popular and accessible spots for sunset in Labuan Bajo. It offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the rolling savanna hills, the Flores Sea, and the surrounding islands of Komodo National Park.

  • Caci Dance Performance. The village’s most famous attraction is the Caci whip dance, a traditional martial art performed by Manggarai men involving whips and shields. This usually requires prior arrangement or a group tour.
  • Spectacular Viewpoint. Located at an altitude of approximately 624 meters, the village offers a “Melo View Point” with sweeping vistas stretching toward the Komodo National Park islands.
  • Cultural Experiences. Visitors can participate in a traditional welcome ceremony, learn about coffee and candlenut processing, and taste Sopi (a local palm wine).

Sunset Experience at Silvia Hill.

  • The View. As the sun sets, the sky turns vibrant shades of orange and red, casting long silhouettes of the islands and the many traditional Phinisi boats anchored in the bay.
  • Best Time. Aim to arrive between 4:30 PM and 5:15 PM. The sun typically sets between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, but the “golden hour” light before and the colors 20 minutes after sunset are often the highlights.

  • 08:30 AM – Depart Labuan Bajo
    Start early to beat the midday heat. The drive to Melo Village takes about 45 minutes.
  • 09:15 AM – Melo Village (Culture)
    • Stop here first for the mountain views.
    • If you’ve pre-arranged a Caci Dance, this is usually when it happens.
    • Enjoy a cup of local Flores coffee and meet the village elders.
    • Duration: 1–1.5 hours.
  • 10:45 AM – Drive to Wae Lolos (Cunca Plias)
    Continue further east for another 20–30 minutes to reach the Waterfall Information Center.
  • 11:15 AM – Cunca Plias Waterfall (Nature & Swim)
    • Check-in and meet your local guide.
    • Trek (15–20 mins) to the first waterfall.
    • Spend time swimming in the “infinity pools” and exploring the different levels.
    • Tip: Pack a light lunch or snacks to eat by the water, as there are no restaurants at the falls.
    • Duration: 2.5–3 hours.
  • 02:30 PM – Return to Labuan Bajo
    Head back toward the coast. You’ll have time for a quick shower or a late lunch in town.
  • 04:45 PM – Arrive at Sylvia Hill (Sunset)
    • Park at the base and begin the short hike up.
    • Find a spot on the ridge to watch the sun drop behind the Komodo islands.
    • Duration: 1.5 hours.
  • 06:30 PM – Dinner at the Fish Market
    End your day at the Kampung Ujung Fish Market near the harbor for fresh grilled seafood
